This book captures the mouth shape of the Chinese phrase "I love you."
The author shares the experience, "As I grew up, I realized that for me, the most genuine way to express 'I love you' always had to carry a touch of humor, sometimes even a hint of irony. When I ask myself why I struggle to say 'I love you' sincerely, my mind fills with fragmented thoughts that I can’t quite articulate. These thoughts resemble disjointed images from a film—flashes of rapid cuts that take over my mind,
leaving me blank. During this time, I kept trying to revisit, clarify, and organize these emotions. I found myself circling around this question, and this book is the result of that process.” Sometimes, "I love you" is hard to say; sometimes it's spoken too fast, sometimes too slow. Readers can control the speed of "I love you," rearranging its phonetic elements. They can also experience the discontinuity brought by flipping through the pages (black version), while
simultaneously facing the uncertainty of whether the next "I love you" is genuine (white version).
At times, flipping back and forth is necessary to confirm the shape of the mouth, just to locate where love happens. You won’t find "love" in this photobook—its sound is absent, requiring repeated confirmation.
