Ryhan's latest photo book, I saved a seat for you 「あなたの席を取っておいだよー」、is a compressed archive of photographs and words dating back to 2019. Equal parts love and loss, visual images are her method of creating a bridge in the present to a well grieved past. Are human beings capable of segmenting and isolating memories from the past? The images and texts were collected over a six year period from 2019 to 2025.
Since 2019 Ryhan has been residing in Japan working within the agriculture sector. From farming green tea to researching heritage food products (sea salt and spices) for her PhD, practising photography has provided her with a way of reconciling the paradoxical arcs of academia and art. A deep yearning to bring her findings to a wider audience. Traversing between nostalgia and the allure of new memories is the fabric of her unapologetically human behaviour.
